Roads Policing update from *BCU**

Monthly community update from Carmarthenshire Roads Policing Sgt Yate 1187 - June 2026

Hello everyone

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share a quick round up of the work that your local Roads Policing Unit have been doing in your area, what's coming up and how we are working with partners to keep our roads safe for those living, working and visiting Carmarthenshire.

From what our communities have told us we have been focusing on:

Priority 1 - Ebikes and scooters in Llanelli, particularly on Station Road

Priority 2 - e-bikes and off-road bikes in Ammanford town

Priority 3 - ASB in North Dock and Burry Port harbour

To effectively tackle these issues we have been working with our local NPPT around the division, as well as continuing to hold talks with the Local Authorities and councillors. Myself and the other RP Sergeants have regular conversations with out NPPT counterparts to identify and target specific locations and offenders. A lot of this is down to the public providing us with the information we need to effectively target prolific offenders.

These collaborations are helping us respond more effectively and holistically to community needs.

As a result we have:

Conducted over 50 targeted patrols of the above hotspots

Taken several illegal e-bikes/off-vehicles off the road.

Arrested 27 offenders for drink and drug offences, as well assisting our response colleagues with numerous arrests for other offences.

Carmarthenshire RPU have also conducted a number of intelligence led stops in the month of June which has led to a significant amount of illegal drugs being taken off the streets. There have also been targeted stops of travelling criminals and wanted persons from out of force, reinforcing our “ring of steel” around Dyfed Powys which we are relentlessly trying to enforce.

We have also invested in new equipment to help us target offenders utilising “Ghost Plates” which has seen a number of offenders stopped and dealt with. It also helps us engage with and educate drivers in relation to potential issues with their vehicles.

This coming month we will continue to target the issues affecting our communities by supporting the following:

eg Drink Drug driving campaigns - especially as the summer months are now upon us

eg Fatal 4 campaign

Carmarthenshire Car Cruise Event

Pembrokeshire show which will see an increase in traffic through Carmarthenshire

Thank you for your continued support and engagement. We welcome any information or intelligence that you as our community can provide us in relation to those using our road network. It really does help us identify where we are best placed to send our resources. While we cannot be everywhere at all times, we can do our best to target certain areas and offenders.
